Full Tax Debt Release

Prior to the 2008 financial crisis, the client was a small business owner, earning enough to support himself and his family. However, once the financial crisis hit, his business took a hit with it and he was no longer able to financially support his family, using funds that would have gone to pay his taxes to instead pay to keep a roof over their heads. This led to a spiral of tax issues that spanned over 10 years, and ended with a balance due to the IRS of almost $70,000.

The client was under a lot of stress dealing with the debt with the IRS and state, and sought out Dickmann Tax Group to assist in negotiating settlements on his debts. He was under audit for double reporting from his employer, as well as facing aggressive collections from a 3rd party collector referred from the state. Dickmann Tax Group successfully argued against the audit and prevented almost $7,000 in additional balances being charged against him, and facilitated an abatement of penalties against his state balance, allowing him to full-pay the principal balance and be rid of the threat of levy or a wage garnishment.

Dickmann Tax Group continued to work with the taxpayer regarding his IRS debt, determining that several of his balances would expire due to the Federal collection statute. We assisted in preserving a Currently Not Collectible status against his account, and in verifying that the debts were written off the case in line with the statute expirations. We were also instrumental in reinstating the Currently Not Collectible status when the IRS forced a default against the status. All-in-all, the client voluntarily paid about $9,000 against his tax debt, whereas around $58,000 of IRS debt was uncollectible and expired from his account. The taxpayer's account is now clear and in compliance and he has no further debt issues with the IRS or state.
